The fine print

About PlayObserve

Last reviewed 30 July 2026 · PlayObserve

PlayObserve started with a frustration: the games industry generates more numbers than almost any other, and most coverage still runs on press releases and vibes. We wanted a desk that reads the filings, builds the charts itself, and says plainly when a figure is an estimate.

What we do

We report the business of games across four beats — funding, launches, studios and market. Every week our members get a data-driven briefing; between those, we publish premium reports and member-only long-reads that take a claim apart and show the working. When we don't know something, we say so. When we estimate, we label it.

Who it's for

Founders sizing a raise, producers defending a budget, analysts who need a second read, and anyone who'd rather have context than hot takes. You don't need a finance degree to read us — that's the point of building the charts carefully and writing the captions honestly.

How we work

Primary sources first: disclosed rounds, public filings, direct conversations with people who sign off on the money. Our data lead keeps a methodology anyone can question, and our corrections are public. We take no money to feature a studio, and analysis is never for sale — the only thing you can buy here is a reader's pass.

Why it matters

Good decisions in this industry ride on believable numbers. Treating games as a serious business — with real budgets, real risk and real people — is the whole job. If our reporting helps one founder ask a sharper question or one reader see past a headline, the desk has done its work.
